Practices of Healthy Marriage

The following statements are important practices of nurturing a healthy marriage relationship.

Return Home

Marriage is a place of mutual serving and growth.
Let us consider ways to stimulate one another to love and good deeds.
  Hebrews 10:24

Marriage is a place to be known and accepted.
To be loved but not known is comforting but superficial. To be known and not loved is our greatest fear. But to be fully known and truly loved is, well, a lot like being loved by God. It is what we need more than anything. It liberates us from pretense, humbles us out of our self-righteousness, and fortifies us for any difficulty life can throw at us.
Timothy Keller, The Meaning of Marriage: Facing the Complexities of Commitment with the Wisdom of God

Marriage is a place of permanence.
Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.
1 Corinthians 13:7

Marriage is a place to be accessible and accountable.
To have and to hold, from this day forward...
Traditional Wedding Vows

Marriage is a place of intentional and purposeful actions.
A successful marriage is a series of intentional activity: Intentional choices, intentional communication, intentional forgiveness, intentional discovery, intentional responses ... The moment we succumb to the fantasy that any of these actions should be spontaneous, the fabric of our marriage is torn terribly.
